Walter A. Vogt 72, of Hawley, PA died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday February 24, 2014. He was born on January 26, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Lottchen Hansen Vogt born 1913 in Hamburg, Germany and Waldemar Henry Vogt born 1905 in Erfurt Germany. Walter was a Sheet Metal worker and a member of Local Union 28 in New York for 45 years, until his retirement in 2007. Walter had a love for his country and the outdoors. He loved to take walks and hikes through the woods. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating. Walter had a passion for horses and worked at Rocking Horse Dude Ranch as a teenager. He also had a love affair with food, always excited for the next meal. Walter was a loving and caring husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Iluminada (Lummy) Vogt; his daughter Karen Davidson and son in law Michael of East Meadow, NY; his daughter Erica Vogt of Bellerose, NY; son in law Jaime DeRisi of Belford, NJ; a son Kenneth Vogt of Bellerose, NY; a son Matthew Vogt and daughter in law Linda of Levittown, NY; and a daughter Nicole Malti and son in law John Malti of Hawley, PA. He was Grandpa/ Opa to 7 grandchildren; Jordan Davidson, Kayla Bates, Taylor Davidson, Nicholas Bates, Hannah Vogt, Zachary Vogt and Jenna Malti. Also surviving his sister Lotte Popovic and brother in law Nenad of Westwood, NJ. He was preceded in death by his brother Erich Vogt. Walter’s strength and courage during his battle with cancer will continue to inspire us all. Auf Wiedersehen and God Bless You……..We will miss you and love you forever. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1st at 10 am at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. As per his request, cremation will follow.
