Betty received continuous support and love from her family as she dealt with Alzheimer’s. Born in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Hilda Melody. Betty and her late husband were married on August 7, 1950. She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress at Katz Underwear Factory in Honesdale. Betty was a dedicated wife of 62 years and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Betty loved everyone and everyone loved Betty.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Debbie Nolan, Donna O’Neill and husband Paul, four grandchildren Amber Nolan, Abriana Nolan, Christopher O’Neill, Travis O’Neill, and two great granddaughters Natalie and Coraline. Also surviving is a brother Francis (Butch) Melody and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her sister, Rita Bellamy preceded her in death in March of 2014.
Betty is remembered for her many talents and for her true gift of being kind and passionate to all. She would welcome everyone into her home, making you feel special and insisting you would never leave hungry. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, boating at Duck Harbor, and attending local community events including concerts in the park. Betty cherished her time spent with her family and friends. Betty and Ed were always together and now they are together forever.
Betty was a resident of Wayne Woodlands Manor since March of 2013. The family wants to extend a heartwarming thank you to the staff and residents of Wayne Woodlands Manor for their compassion and commitment to our mom. This was her home for nearly three years and the staff and residents were like family.
Family and friends may visit at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main Street. Honesdale, Friday, November 20, 2015. A viewing is scheduled from 9-11, followed by a service at 11:00. Interment will follow in the Indian Orchard Cemetery.
