We regretfully announce the passing of Steven Robert Nuss, 25, of Cherry Ridge, who, in his final moments was surrounded by family and friends. Steven died on March 3, 2019 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC, where he was awaiting hopeful re-transplant surgery.  Born on January 6, 1994, he leaves behind his parents, Michelle and Keith Nuss, as well as his sister, Erin Nuss.  Our “golden boy” was born a fighter, surviving biliary atresia and receiving a groundbreaking liver transplant when he was only nine months old.  Steven’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understand that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which you live it.

Although Steven’s illness made him appear frail, he possessed strength, perseverance and the ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges.  With his courage, he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.  He spent the summers and special times camping with his family at their lake cabin, “Camp Beaver” and in Blooming Grove – all favorite places where he loved to hunt, fish, sit by the campfire and listen to the sounds of nature.  He enjoyed “anything fast”, spending time with his many cousins and playing with his dogs.  Anyone who knew Steven knew that he lived life adventurously, taking chances and making the most of any opportunity.

He was a free-spirit, who lived in the present and on his terms.  He was a dreamer and also someone who could enter a room and brighten it with his smile, his uncanny wit or simply his joyful presence.  He loved to laugh and see happiness in others, often making us forget our own problems.

With Steven’s passing, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated.  Although we will miss him every day – especially his humor, he will remain forever in our hearts.  Throughout his short life, he was able to create wonderful memories for us, and it has been a privilege to be his family.

Finally, he is at peace in the loving arms of Grandma Shirley Krol and his dog, Mallory.  Thank you to all who have supported us during this long journey.

A memorial will be held Friday, March 8th from 4-7pm at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St, Honesdale, PA 18431.  We will also celebrate Steven’s life with photos, music, memories and stories on Saturday, March 9th from 12-5pm at VIP Kidz Club, 218 Willow Ave, Honesdale, PA 18431. All are welcomed with hugs and appreciation for impacting Steven’s life.

We would ask that any contributions be made to the House of Care, MC 28-00, Geisinger Medical Center, 100 N Academy Ave, Danville PA 17822. After Steven’s transplant surgery in 1994, this precious place became a second home to the Nuss Family.
