Shirley A. (Reed) Ostrander, 88, of Honesdale, died on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Geisinger CMC in Scranton.

 

Born on November 28, 1935 at the family home in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Sanford and Jennie (Sherwood) Reed. Following high school, she attended Stanton’s Business School in Honesdale. She began working at the former Banner Shoe Company in Honesdale. She later was a bookkeeper at Chroma Tube in White Mills and retired from Moore Business Forms in Honesdale.

 

Shirley enjoyed being active in the community where she served as Texas Township Auditor for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering the senior center working on crafts. At home, she enjoyed crocheting and was well known for her plastic canvas’s.

 

Surviving is her daughters, Sandra Wulff and husband William of White Mills and Sheri Ostrander; her son, Elwin Ostrander Jr. of Beach Lake; her daughter-in-law, Dolores Leopardi of Honesdale; her sisters, Phyllis MacMullen of Beach Lake, Nancy Schwartz of Honesdale and Brenda Reed of Hamlin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Teri, Jason, Robert, Nicolette, Neil, James, Zachary and Jacob; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Elwin Ostrander Sr.; brothers, Sanford, Martin and Wynn Reed. She was also preceded in death by her longtime companion, James Byrnes.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd at Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11 am by Rev. Lloyd Canfield. Interment will follow in Calkins Union Cemetery. Friends may visit on Wednesday, 9 until the time of service.
