Rita Eleanor Weidner, 92, a resident of Bethany Village, Bethany, PA, passed away Tuesday, August 29th following an illness.
Born in Poth, Texas on August 4, 1925, Rita was the daughter of the late Andrew and Eleanor Reinhard. She is survived by two sons, Rev. P. Andrew Weidner and his wife Sandra, who reside in Clarks Summit, PA, and John G. Weidner and his wife Mary Lynn, who reside in Lake Ariel, PA. She is also survived by two grandsons, Jacob Rowe, his wife Teresa, and their children Hayden and Delaney from Honesdale, PA, and Lucas Weidner and his wife Jessica from Pottstown PA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rita remained close to her nieces Kathy in Carrollton, Texas and Linda in Breckinridge, Colorado and spoke with them often.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband SSGT. Paul B. Weidner, her sisters Evelyn Albert and Genevieve McInvale, and brothers Felix Reinhard, Francis Reinhard, and Clarence Reinhard.
Rita always worked outside the home and was one of the telephone operators in Honesdale prior to the change to dial telephones. Who remembers “Number Please?”
Rita then worked in the local garment industry until retirement. In her later years her favorite pastimes were quilting at the Honesdale Senior Center, working with ceramics, and spending time with her cat Margie.
Rita loved her family and often went without to take care of them. She loved family get togethers and times with friends and neighbors.
Andy and John wish to extend their thanks to the staff of Bethany Village for the care given to mom. We especially would like to thank the staff who saw mom every day, Amanda, Jen, Kevin, and Jen. Her two feline friends, Jimmy and Oscar, certainly brightened her days at Bethany Village.
We cannot thank Charlene Whitmore from Comfort Care enough for the care she provided during mom’s final days. She went above and beyond what was required.
Memorial donations can be made to Billy’s New Hope Barn, 349 Schoolhouse Road, Honesdale, PA 18431
