Renee Lynn DeGroat, 47, of Honesdale, died on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her longtime companion, David Hnatko.

Born on July 24, 1977 in Honesdale, she is the daughter of Carol Spangenberg DeGroat and the late Vernon DeGroat. Renee worked for many years as a home health aid and loved caring for others. Recently she began working for Bulldog Maintenance cleaning offices and other facilities in the area.

She was most proud of being a mother and caring for her children and her granddaughter. She loved being there to support them and all activities they were involved in. Renee appreciated the beauty in nature and sharing her appreciation with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed watching waterfalls.

Renee was a faithful member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Pleasant Mount attending St. James Church.

Also surviving is her son, Robert Hnatko of Honesdale; her daughters, Ashley Hnatko of Honesdale and Cynthia and husband Frank Spinelli of Hawley; her brother Arthur DeGroat of Beach Lake; her sister, Carol TenEyck; her mother-in-law, Margaret Hnatko of Pleasant Mount; her granddaughter, Addyson Spinelli and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 5th at St. James Church in Pleasant Mount at 10:30 am. The family will receive friends in church, 9:30 until the time of Mass. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery.
