O’Neill, as well as her four siblings. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and reared in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, she was one of five children of the late Isabelle Canivan Dunne and Thomas Francis Dunne. Graduating from Honesdale High School in 1944, she continued her education at Marywood College (Scranton, PA) and SUNY Cortland (Cortland, NY), and then began her career as an elementary school teacher. After 33 years – the last 21 years at Brewerton Elementary School (Brewerton, NY) in the Central Square Central School District as teacher, reading teacher, and curriculum consultant – she retired in 1990. However, whenever a young friend needed extra help, she remained available to assist and tutor. She was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church (now Divine Mercy Parish, Central Square, NY), where she served on the Pastoral Council and in other lay ministries. Surviving are two sons and three daughters-in-law: Jacqueline (Central Square, NY), James and wife Keelin (Shaker Heights, OH), and William and wife Leslie (St. Petersburg, FL); ten grandchildren: Deonna Jim (Michael), Tammy Alpuerto (Abe), Tom O’Neill (Julie), Sam Formica (Margaret), Michael, Eileen, Moira, Tommy, Brendan, and Cameron; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale, PA. Interment will follow at St. Cecelia’s Cemetery in Hilltop, PA. Calling hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday preceding mass at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main Street, Honesdale, PA.
