Michael “Mox” Robert Hessling, 71, of Honesdale, died on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Geisinger CMC in Scranton.

Born on March 13, 1950 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Robert N. and Shirley (Daniels) Hessling. For 11 years, he attended Honesdale Catholic School and graduated from Honesdale High School, class of 1968. He later graduated from Bloomsburg State College.

Mox worked for many years at Moore Business Forms before becoming the caregiver for his mother and father.

During his high school years, he was a statistician at Honesdale Catholic High School. An advocate for youth sports he became a statistician for the Honesdale Hornets and became a fixture at all sporting events.

Though handicapped, he loved to play in the Terrace Street Hill Gang wiffle ball, hard-ball and football games. Mox was famous for taking the first pitch and the number of foul balls in one at bat, all of which were hit into the high weeds and pricker bushes on the Doherty baseball field behind the homestead.

He loved taking his walks to town for lunch, business and visiting with friends. Always concerned for the others, Mike would always ask how family and friends were doing.

A devout member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, he served as an usher at the 10:30 Mass. Mox also prayed the Rosary daily.

Surviving are his brothers, Richard Hessling and wife Mary of Honesdale, Thomas Hessling with whom he resided, William Hessling and wife Theresa of Hawley and Robert Hessling and wife Marie of Cherry Ridge; his aunt, Jean Hessling Gilhool of Honesdale; nieces and nephews, Heather Birdsall and husband Jason, Lacey Yzeik and husband Philip, Richelle Ziser and husband Thomas, Thomas Hessling, Olivia, Samantha and Julia Hessling, Nicholas, Natasha and Rachel Hessling; great nieces and nephews, Lindsey, Brienna, Gavin and Asher Birdsall, Thomas III and Ledger Hessling, Aliyah Weaver, Cashton and Emberly Ziser.

He was preceded in death by his niece, Jaclyn Hessling Herrod and great niece Ashley Hessling.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 12th at St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday, 4 to 7.
