Merlin R. Mang, 93, of Honesdale, died on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, the former Marion A. Theobald, who died on September 8, 2014. The couple married on June 27, 1953.

Born on September 1, 1927 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Henry P. and Florence (Weidner) Mang. Merlin was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.

A welder by trade, Merlin worked at the former Yuba in Honesdale. He later worked for many years at New Jersey Transit where he would retire from. He enjoyed golfing and watching his grandson participate in school sporting events. He also enjoyed watching baseball games and western movies. Even at the age of 93, Merlin continued working hard keeping his yard looking nice.

He was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Surviving is his daughter, Jean Manganello and husband Edward of Honesdale; his grandson, Robert Manganello of Waymart; his brothers-in-law, Jack Theobald and wife Pauline and Donald McCann; sister-in-law, Jean Theobald; several nieces and nephews. His family would also like to thank his neighbors, Dave Yadlosky, Leroy Sporer, Richard and Linda Miller and Joe Murray for their friendship and help over the years.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Mang and sister, Jean Marie Mang.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of his family. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s favorite charity in memory of Merlin.
