Louis E. Bishop Sr., 82, of Honesdale, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Wayne Woodlands Manor. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Katherine Augello.  The couple married on June 25, 1960

Born on October 26, 1939 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Edgar and Florence (Derrick) Bishop. He was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran.

Lou began working at the former S.J. Bailey and Sons and retired from the Wayne County Prison where he was a corrections officer. He also worked with Chuck Shelp working security at the Wayne County Fair.

He was a member of Texas #4 Fire Co. in Honesdale. Lou enjoyed hunting and was a member of Fox Ridge Sportsman Club. He also enjoyed playing hozzie in the Wayne County Hozzie League. He was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. Lou most of all enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, MSGT. Louis Bishop Jr., USAF (retired) and wife Patricia of Cheyenne, WY and PO1 John Bishop, US Navy (retired) and wife Haffiza Ali of Oxnard, CA; his brother, Jack Bishop and wife Mary Jo of Honesdale; his sister, Linda Hunkins of Denver, CO and Karen Thompson and husband Richard of Galeton, PA; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Blessing Service will be held at Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Honesdale with military honors. Friends may visit on Tuesday, 4-7 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or Disabled American Veterans.
