Laurie E. Stookey, 61, of Sterling, died on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Todd Stookey. The couple married on April 21, 2004.
Born on August 5, 1962 in Equinunk, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Madlyn (Brining) Miller. Laurie was employed for many years at Rodgers, Olver and Polley Insurance and retired from Sheeley Insurance Agency.
She was a faithful member of Light of Christ Church in Mount Cobb. She enjoyed riding her motorcycle with her husband. They were members of the Christian Motorcycle Association. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren. In the family, she was the favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews. Laurie also enjoyed baking.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brothers, Berton Miller and wife Marge of Honesdale, Bernie Miller and wife Heather of Atlantic Beach, NC and Jeff Harris and wife Cathy of Damascus; her sisters, Beryl Van Wyckhouse of Equinunk and Patricia Hanley and husband Ray of Clifford; her grandchildren, Kylie Laude, Ashan Stookey, Eronique White and Athena Mitschele; step-grandchildren, Gavin Toy and Dylan Stookey; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sara E. Hanley and step-son, Steven Stookey.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15th at Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale at 6:30pm. Friends may visit on Monday, 4 until the time of service. Private interment will be in Catterson Cemetery.
