Due to the forecast for Tuesday, March 14th, the funeral services for Joseph Guinther have been moved to Tuesday, March 21st.

 

Joseph M. Guinther passed away on February 26, 2023 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Carbondale, Pa on July 3, 1939, he was the son of the late Austin George Guinther and Genevieve Dombroski Guinther. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Hannelore Volz, his son, Stephen Joseph Guinther, a sister, Judy, stepmother, Florence, and a sister in law, Sharon.

He is survived by his daughter, Lorie Smith and her husband Russell, Honesdale, a grandson, Jacob Smith and wife, Allison, of Berwick, and three great-grandchildren, Lucia, Sullivan, and Gwendolyn Smith. He is also survived by three siblings, Pat Ambrose, Paul Guinther and his wife Cheryl, and Thomas Guinther. Several nieces,nephews, cousins, and close friends.

He was employed for several years at Dean Fowler Service Station, followed by The Wayne County Courthouse.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist/St. Mary Magdalen Parish and took part in Eucharistic adoration at the chapel for many years.

Joe was happiest when he was: “shooting the bull”, about almost anything, but mostly when the subject was his grandson, Jacob and his family, or antique motorcycles and trucks, especially Indian motorcycles and Chevrolet trucks.

He was a volunteer at Wayne Memorial Hospital and phone volunteer for Wayne County Area on Aging.

Donations may be made in memory of Joe to St. John the Evangelist Church, Honesdale, Pa or to the American Heart Association.

A mass will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 11:00 at St. Mary Magdalen, Honesdale, Pa. Friends may visit 10:00-11:00.
