John P. DeYoung, 87, of Honesdale, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annetta K. DeYoung on August 8, 2015. The couple married on August 16, 1958.

Born in Abington, PA, he was the son of the late John C. and Helen (Barone) DeYoung. He was a US Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War. He worked as a foreman for Henkels and McCoy and later retired from Honesdale Gas Company.

In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He was well known by his family and friends for his love and anticipation of playing the lottery.

John was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale attending St. Mary Magdalen Church.

Surviving is his son John C. DeYoung and wife Laura Ann of Hawley; his daughter, Jacqueline Davis and husband Harold of Honesdale; his daughter-in-law, Nancy DeYoung of White Mills; his brother, Thomas DeYoung and wife Barbara of Warminster, PA; grandchildren, Kristin, Cassandra, Eric, Steven, Cassandra Marie, Joel, Brittany and Randi. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey DeYoung; his brothers, William, Robert and Gerald DeYoung and his sister, Nancy Walton.

Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday, July 31st, 10 to 12. A blessing service will be held at noon. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Honesdale.
