John Joseph Serafin, 90, of Beach Lake, died on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Betty Case on June 20, 1999.

 

Born on October 16, 1933 in Passaic, NJ, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Anntionette (Radwan) Serafin. He was a graduate of Garfield High School in New Jersey. A hard worker, John worked for Ford Motor Company in Clifton, NJ and Sears Roebuck in Maywood, NJ. He retired in 2003 and moved to his vacation home in Beach Lake.

 

John was active in the early days of NASCAR as a pit crewman, and in later years he enjoyed coaching Babe Ruth League baseball. After settling in Beach Lake, John became active in the community as a faithful member of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church and a proud member of the Welcome Lake Fire Department.

 

He enjoyed fishing, watching stock car racing, baseball and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

 

Surviving is his daughter, Amy Ulma and her husband William of Emmaus, PA; his sons, Scott Hessberger and Nicole Duva of Lodi, NJ and Barry and Lorranie Hessberger of Honesdale, PA; his grandchildren, Darren Hessberger and his wife Patrica, Caitlin Hessberger, Madeline and Lillian Ulma, Tiffany and Holly Hessberger; his great grandson, Brendan Hessberger.

 

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Hessberger; brother, Frank Serafin; sister June Demoliner.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 24th at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Honesdale, PA. Friends may visit on Friday at the church, starting at 11:30 am until the time of service. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
