John Joseph Gattus, Jr., 56, of Honesdale, died unexpectedly on Monday, February 7, 2022. He is survived by his longtime companion, Vera Halstead.

Born on October 21, 1965 in Queens, NY, he is the son of Joan (Voelkl) Gattus of Callicoon, NY and the late John Joseph Gattus, Sr.. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School and later served in the Pennsylvania National Guard. For several years he owned and operated his own construction business.

In his spare time, John enjoyed riding his motorcycle and flying model airplanes.

Also surviving are his children, Jessica Gattus and boyfriend Jason Fulkrod, Joseph Gattus and girlfriend Faith Conklin and John Schilling all of Honesdale, Melissa Schilling of CT, and Justin Shoemaker of Honesdale; his siblings, George Gattus and Lori, Pete Gattus and Darlene, Michael Gattus and Robin Gattus all of New York; grandchildren, Alisha and Jacob Catania, Nevaeh and Peyton Wells, Colton Bell Jr., Aurora Shoemaker, John, Alexis, Katelynn and Peter Gonzalez, Dominic Rylka and Justin Davis. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Corey Wells and sisters, Elaine, Joan and Christine.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11 am. Friends may visit 9 until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
