Joanne Marie Curtis, 74, of Honesdale, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Laurence B. Curtis. The couple married on January 8, 1977.

Born on January 10, 1949 in Upper Darby, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Geraldine (Caffrey) Fagan. She was a graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School in Upper Darby where she developed a strong Catholic faith. She later attended the University of Scranton.

Over the years, she worked in several health care facilities cooking and managing the kitchens. She retired from Bethany Village in 2018 where she worked over 15 years and enjoyed spending time with the residents.

Joanne enjoyed gardening, picnics and chatting with family and friends over a cup of tea. She loved her family and was most proud to say that all 6 of her children received college educations. Regardless of what fields of study they chose, she just wanted them to be happy. Despite her health issues in the last few years, she was able to attend her youngest daughters wedding, her second youngest daughter’s PhD ceremony, her oldest brother’s 80th birthday and share in many other important times with her family. Joanne was a sweet, humble and kind woman and a best friend to her brothers. She will be remembered as a loyal and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Also surviving are her children, Kurt Curtis of Honesdale, Mallary Curtis of Stroudsburg, Laura Curtis and husband Justin Davis of Honesdale, Janelle Curtis of Palmer, AK, Dr. Amanda Curtis of Lansing, MI and Mary Curtis and husband Andrew Coffey of Alexandria, VA; her brothers, John Fagan and wife Carol of Carbondale and Gerard Fagan and wife Kathy of Lake Ariel. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Faith Daniels, Grace Curtis, Adison, Siena and Brycen Davis; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 27th at St. Joseph’s Church in Rileyville at 10am. Interment will follow in East Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
