Joan T. Westbrook, 90, of Honesdale, died on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Sterling Westbrook on April 1, 1983. The couple married on June 23, 1951.

Born on May 9, 1930 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Jerome H. and Helen (Bea) Theobald. She was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School, class of 1949.

Joan enjoyed the life of being an Army spouse, following her husband around the world and raising her family. They later settled back in Honesdale where she owned and operated several restaurants. She enjoyed cooking and the friendships she made working in the restaurant business.

She loved to travel the world and continued doing so following the early death of her husband. As her family grew she became an import part of her grandchildren’s lives helping take care of them. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and would make sure her kids and their friends had warm gloves and hats. Joan looked forward to getting together with the same group of friends to play cards weekly for the past 40 years.

Joan was a caring person who was always looking to help others in need. Whether it be making someone was not hungry or to make sure someone had warm clothing, she was always willing to help.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Surviving are her sons Steven Westbrook of South Carolina and Daniel Westbrook of Honesdale; Jean Barthel and Luanne Weidner and husband Larry all of Honesdale; her granddaughter Megan Hayes; great grandchildren Taylor and Kailey Williams, Sgt. Torrie Hayes, Dene Hayes and Anna Rake.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Allison Weidner; her brothers Rich and Jerome Theobald.
