Joan M. Garrity (Pratt)

Joan Marie Garrity, 80, of Honesdale, died on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center in Lake Ariel. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard Garrity. The couple married on September 4, 1966.

Born on July 10, 1936 in Dover, NH she was the daughter of the late Harvey Wilson and Elsie Abbott Pratt. Joan began working in New Hampshire, as a nurses aide. After she and her husband moved to Honesdale, she worked at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Spojnia Manor and Julia Ribaudo Extended Care before retiring.

Joan was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and was a member of its former social services group. She and Richard also participated in the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel before taking ill.

She loved reading, puzzles, and hunting and fishing with her husband.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons Paul Garrity and wife Marlys of Seattle, WA, Bruce Garrity of Farmington, NH and Kenneth Garrity and wife Teresa of Hawley; her brothers Richard Pratt and wife Dianne of Somersworth, NH, Everett Pratt and wife Carol of Farmington, NH and Robert Pratt and wife Pat of Samford, ME; sisters Judith Cope, Florence York both of Farmington, NH, Catherine Arnold of TN and Mary Pratt of Dover, NH; 6 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sons Richard and Eric Garrity.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 17th at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10 am. Interment will follow in Indian Orchard Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday, 4 to 6.
