Jean Kahny Wood, 86, of Honesdale, died on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. Wood on December 18, 2003. The couple married on October 27, 1956.

Born on November 24, 1932 in Princeton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Mary O’Kane Kahny. For many years, Jean was the associate editor at Highlights for Children until her retirement.

Jean was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale where she served as the former CCD Coordinator, participated in its Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Martin. She was also a member of the parish choir which had the privilege to sing for Pope John Paul II at St. Peters Cathedral in Rome. This was one of the highlights during her life.

She enjoyed pontoon boat rides on Lake Wallenpaupack and vacationing at Chautaqua Institution in New York. She devoted her life to helping others through charitable causes. A loving Grammy, she cherished her time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are her sons Chris Wood and wife Sherry of Milford, PA, Tim Wood and wife Nancy of Honesdale and Michael Wood and wife Kathy of Phoenixville, PA; daughters Mary Beth Wood of Honesdale and Regina Pollard and husband Norm of Alfred, NY; sisters Mary Louise Sweeney and Carol Kahny both of Yardley, PA; her grandchildren Erin Young, Caitlin Pollard, Sabrina, Sadie, Christian, Danielle and Nicholas Wood; great granchildren Jack and Ryan Young; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Helen Haydon, Margaret Kahny and Rosemary McNally.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 30th at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10:30 am. Friends may visit on Friday at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale 9 to 10am. As per her request, cremation will follow and interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
