James Joseph Carroll III, 75, of Beach Lake, passed into eternal life on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Dorothy A. Riepel. The couple married on July 23, 1968.

 

Born on December 10, 1948 in Scranton, raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late James Joseph Jr. and Bernadine (Novajosky) Carroll. He was a US Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War.

 

An auto mechanic, Jimmy owned and operated Quality Service-Sales-Towing and Transport in Keansburg, NJ. Following his retirement he and his wife settled in Beach Lake.

 

A car enthusiast, he enjoyed building cars and drag racing. He also enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. Most of all, Jimmy loved being with his family and making friends everywhere he went. He was a self-trained gourmet chef. He had a firm faith with God and everlasting life.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Wendy Carroll-Steffens and husband Andrew of Honesdale; his son, James Joseph Carroll IV and wife Theresa of Kingsport, TN; his brother, Donald Carroll and wife Dorothy of Mountain Top, PA; his sisters, Elaine Carroll and Diana Castellano and husband Joseph all of Scranton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brittany Carroll, Christopher Steffens, Katelyn Rivezzi, Anthony, Emmalee and Evan Steffens, James Joseph Carroll V and Mark Carroll; great grandchildren, Grace Moser, Melodee Moser, Stella Steffens and Cole Rivezzi.

 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Carroll and sister, Bernadine Herie.

 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 23rd at St. Mary’s Church in Waymart at 11am. Celebration of life lunch to follow. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
