Helen A. O’Heren, 87, of Hawley, died on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph O’Heren on February 25, 2009. The couple married on January 24, 1948.

Born on August 18, 1931 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late James and Nellie Smith Landers. Helen worked many places over the years but spent most of her career working in the bakery at IGA in Hawley. She was a talented baker and enjoyed decorating cakes.

An active and faithful member of B.V.M. Queen of Peace Parish in Hawley, she was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society and was a former CCD teacher. Helen was also a strong supporter of the March of Dimes. When she was not baking, Helen enjoyed sewing and crocheting making dolls and stuffed animals.

Surviving are her sons Patrick O’Heren and wife Mary, John P. O’Heren and wife Brenda, Shawn O’Heren, Brian O’Heren and wife June all of Hawley and Kevin O’Heren and wife Mandy of York, PA; daughters Nancy Gibson and husband Bob of Harrisburg, Susan O’Heren of Hawley, Jo-Ann Staszewski of Lakeville and Melissa O’Heren of Port Richie, FL; 17 granchildren and 24 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughters Margaret Mary and Rebecca O’Heren; sons Joseph and Daniel O’Heren; brothers James and William Landers and her sister Betty Mitschele.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 4th at Queen of Peace Church in Hawley at 10 am. Interment will be in Queen of Peace Cemetery in the spring. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday, 4 to 7.
