Gisele Verdi of Bethany, PA, died on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 89.

The daughter of the late Joseph and Adele Drolet, she was born on June 29, 1925 in Quebec City, Canada. Gisele was the wife of the late Vito Verdi.

Gisele, a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, decorating and having conversations about politics. She held a great love for her Catholic faith.

Gisele was pre-deceased by her husband Vito, her parents, her brother Paul and 4 sisters, Gabrielle, Lucianne, Jeanne D’arc, and Margot, all of Quebec City, Canada.

She is survived by one brother, Andre of Montreal, Canada, her son James Verdi of Damascus, PA and daughters Adele Shapiro of Narrowsburg, NY, and Suzanne Doller and husband Paul of Harrisburg, PA. Also surviving, her 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Bowers, Casey Whitaker, Courtney Shapiro, Jessica Bausch and husband Paul, Robert Verdi and wife Alyssa.

She was lovingly known as “Gisele the Great” to her 5 great grandchildren.

There will be a private viewing for her family at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. in Honesdale on Tuesday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Church St. Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Monticello, NY.
