Gilbert Calvin Satre, 81 of Waymart, died on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Geisinger CMC in Scranton.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Julia Lois Hoffman.  The couple married on August 1, 1961.
Born on April 8, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Walter I. and Jesse (Merritt) Satre.  Gilbert was a proud US Navy veteran who served his Country aboard the USS Fulton.
After 28 years, Gilbert retired as a lieutenant from the Suffolk County police department.  Following his retirement he and his wife settled in Waymart.  Gilbert loved music and became talented at refurbishing instruments.  His passion for music will live on through his family and grandchildren.
Gilbert was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Waymart Church. His faith and family were most important to his life.
His family will miss everything about him.  Especially his sense of humor, his nicknames for his loved ones, his passion for knowledge and his love for sharing his hobbies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Lois Schiavetta of Bethpage, NY, Suzanne Pucci and husband William of Kyle, TX, Carla Satre of Honesdale and Kristina Murphy and husband Andrew of Cherry Ridge; his brother, Walter I. Satre, Jr. of New Jersey; 5 granddaughters, 7 grandsons, and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Satre.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 26th at The Waymart Church, 596 Honesdale Rd. Waymart, PA at 10 am.   Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale
