Gerard C. “Gerry” McCormick, 59, of Honesdale, died on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, the former Mary Ann Rickard. The couple married on September 26, 1992. Born on October 6, 1954 in Carbondale, PA, he is the son of Susanna “Sue” Ryan McCormick of Pleasant Mount and the late J. Benedict McCormick. He was a graduate of Forest City High School, class of 1973 and later served in the US Air Force during peacetime. He began working as a corrections officer at Norristown State Hospital and later at Farview State Hospital in Waymart. Gerry was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 772 in Norristown, PA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Ponderosa Hunting Club. He is also survived by his son Jeb McCormick at home; brothers Joe McCormick of Waymart, Bobby McCormick and wife Jane of Newfoundland, Jimmy McCormick and wife Carrie of Stewartsville, NJ, John McCormick of Pleasant Mount, Billy McCormick and wife Bonnie of Waymart and Paul McCormick of Pleasant Mount; sisters Ann Brady and husband Dan of Honesdale, Peggy Rogers and husband Rob of Honesdale, Debbie Wenk and husband Luke of Lakewood, Joan Lamanna and husband Mike of Jacksonville, FL, Patricia McCormick of Honesdale and Mary McCormick of Indian Harbour Beach, FL; his mother-in-law Jane Rickard of Honesdale; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Gerald Rickard. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 16th at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Honesdale. As per his request, cremation will follow. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday from 4 to 7.
