was born to Anna and George Marcakis on January 7 th , 1948. He grew up in Northeast
Philadelphia and later attended Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia Community
College and College of Textiles and Science.
George worked for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board for 34 years and after retirement also
worked for the Wayne County Office of Aging.
George, AKA Pop, AKA Mac, was a loving husband, father and grandfather. George had a kind
soul and a big heart which he put on display often. George was an avid train and history
enthusiast as well as a proud grandfather. Whether it was putting his artistic skills in practice
with various elaborate train displays or traveling to historic landmarks throughout the country,
he always took joy in these hobbies and was always happy to share his passions with others.
George was also a self-described “sucker” for a dog in need and throughout his life he provided
a loving home to many. His love of dogs was usually shared in countless treats and belly rubs
that always put a smile on his face.
In his later years, he enjoyed time at home reading and spending time with his wife, children
and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; children, Jennifer Marcakis (Mitchell Dennis) of Holland,
PA, Jason Marcakis (Leiza Stanley) of Plymouth Meeting, PA; grandchildren: Owen and Stella
Marcakis; his beloved sister, Jeannette Papciak as well as dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and
friends.
