Eugenia “Jean” Catherine Spinner Williams, age 98 of Honesdale died Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Scranton. She was predeceased by her husband, David T. Williams, who died in 2001. She was born in Honesdale, November 3, 1919, the daughter of the late Julius Spinner and Mathilda Gormley Spinner of Cherry Ridge.  At the age of 18, she received a full scholarship from The Julliard School in New York for piano but chose to marry and start her family.

 

Jean was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was well known in Cherry Ridge, the Honesdale area and throughout Wayne County for her political, civic and social activities. She assisted in running the family farm in Cherry Ridge and for many years was the owner of Jean C. Williams & Son Upholstering.  She was a kind, compassionate and generous person who loved entertaining family and friends.

 

In addition to her husband, David T. Williams, she was also predeceased by a son, Frank Williams; a daughter Sandra Williams French; a grandson, Jason French; a great granddaughter, Meaghan Williams; and an infant brother, Jay Spinner.

 

She is survived by her son, Dave Williams Jr. and his wife Melba, of Honesdale, PA and Texas; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Frank Williams Jr., his wife Stacey Herzog Williams, and their daughter Riley and son Quinn of Lakeville, PA; Dave Williams III, his wife Tammy and their son Logan of Texas; Tina Williams Bjork and her husband Andy of Scott Township, PA; Jennifer Snow of Florida; son-in-law John Propeack of Honesdale, PA and former daughter-in-law, Kay Ashworth Williams Stephenson of Lakeville, PA. She will be remembered by many relatives, neighbors and friends including Larry Birmelin, who always thought of Jean as his second mother.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16th at St. John the Evangelist Church, Honesdale at 10 am.  Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne County Historical Society, 810 Main St, Honesdale, PA 18431 or Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431.
