Eugene (Gene) Nonnenmacher passed away at Wayne Memorial Hospital July 13, 2022 at age 93 following a sudden illness. A homebody at heart, Gene could often be seen enjoying his ride-on mower or tinkering in the garage. An expert at fixing just about anything, he loved repairing antique clocks and watches and admired their craftsmanship and history. Gene graduated from Honesdale Catholic High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Army’s occupational forces after WWII. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, Gene worked as Parts Manager at Wayne Motors and Boyd Brothers, then served as maintenance man at Peck’s Nursing Home and assisted his son-in-law in his construction business prior to retirement. Gene is survived by daughters Diane Hessling (Ben) and Debra Toba (Garry), grandson Adam Hessling (Noma), granddaughter Amanda Highhouse (Ben) and great grandchildren Abbie, Zoie, and A.J. Hessling, and Grace and Rhett Highhouse, brother Clarence, sisters Rita Young, Pauline Theobald (Jack), Teresa Nonnenmacher, and Helene (Frank) Niekrewicz. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma, of 64 years, parents Agnes and Ferdinand, sister Marie Colligan, brothers Bernard and John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 20h at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 am. Interment with military honors will follow. Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home on Tuesday, 4 to 7.
