Dwight Spencer McBain, 83, of Pleasant Mount and Laguna Woods, CA, died on May 16, 2021 at his home in California.  He is survived by his wife, Virginia Durren.

He was born on August 4, 1937, he was the son of the late Isaiah Dwight and Eva Marie (Spencer) McBain.  Spencer, as he was known to family and friends, grew up in Honesdale and Pleasant Mount.  He graduated Pleasant Mount High School and then served in the US Air Force, specializing in radar and radio.  Settling in California, Spencer continued his education receiving his MBA and JD.

He had a long and successful career as a computer programmer for Xerox Corp before retiring.  Following his retirement, he built his dream home on the family property in Pleasant Mount.  He would continue to travel across the country spending summers in northeast Pennsylvania and winters in southern California.

Spencer enjoyed any outdoor activities that would get his adrenaline going.  They included skiing, sailing and kayaking.  In his retirement, he taught computer classes in Pleasant Mount.

In addition to his wife, Spencer is survived by his grandson, Griffin Auckland; his step-children, Zachary Durren (Bekka), Sarah Hyer (Shawn), Jesse Durren (Liz), Caitlin Durren and Joseph Durren; step-grandchildren, Kyle, Maddie, Joshua, Matthew, Ian, Cindy and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nola Mae McBain.

A graveside service will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21st in Bethany Cemetery att 11:30 with military honors.
