Dorothy H. Hawley, 94, of Honesdale, died on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Bethany Village surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold G. Hawley Sr on May 28, 2022. The couple married on May 8, 1949.

 

Born on October 11, 1929 in Lookout, she was the daughter of the late John and Ethel (Brigham) Hellmers. She was a graduate of Hancock High School where she was valedictorian of her class. Following her graduation, she began working at Hancock Bank. She was later secretary of transportation at Welsh Farms in Long Valley, NJ. Before retiring, she was employed by Tofutti Brands in Cranford, NJ.

 

Dorothy took an interest in genealogy and was proud to trace her ancestors back to the 1500’s. She was a member of the Wayne County Glass Club where she had served as the clubs treasurer.

 

Surviving is her son, Harold G. Hawley Jr and wife Maurya of Honesdale; her grandchildren, Heather Miller and husband Bernie, Harold Hawley III and wife Sherry and Adam Hawley and wife Amy; great grandchildren, Logan Miller and wife Emily and Seth Miller, Katelyn Goodwin and husband Jordan, Jacob Hawley, Logan Simpson and Stasia Todd, Owen and Carter Hawley, and her great-great grandson, Watson Goodwin; and her best friend Joyce Hellmers.

 

She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hellmers.

 

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of her family. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
