Donald Pritchard Sr., 97, of Honesdale, died on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marie Seelig on March 8, 2018. The couple married on June 19, 1954.

Born in Olyphant, PA on January 17, 1925, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary (Yudinak) Pritchard. After graduating from Honesdale High School, he began working at the Murray Co. Soon after, he joined the US Marine Corp and quickly rose to the rank of sergeant. He was stationed in the Pacific and participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima where he was injured and received a Purple Heart.

After receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to the Murray Co. where they trained him to install and service oil burners. He later started his own business, Don Pritchard’s Oil Burners Service and continued working until the age of 89.

In his spare time, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the Marine Corp League where he enjoyed meeting with other Marines.

Surviving are his sons, Donald Jr. of Honesdale, Michael of Langhorne, PA and Joseph of Nashville, TN; his daughter, Susan Pritchard of Bloomsburg, PA; his cousin, Helen Smetana of Dalton, PA and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Pritchard, his brother, Richard Pritchard and sister, Mary Weeks.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 22nd at St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale at 10 am. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday, 4 to 7.
