David Daniel Evans, Jr. age 83, of Milburn, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023 with his children by his side at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale.

David was born in 1940 in Scranton, PA,  son of the late Mr. David Evans and Helen (Goddard) Evans, he grew up with his brothers Robert Evans of PA, the late John Evans of NC, Ronald Evans of PA, his sisters Judy Biondi of PA and Suzanne Steindel of PA, David graduated from The University of Scranton and received his master’s degree from Montclair State University. He married Carolyn Anne Hodorowski of PA; they were married for 25 years and resided and raised their family in NJ. David was employed by the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in New Jersey where he worked for 35 years.

Being a caring and dependable father was of the utmost importance to David. He certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. He was always up for a prank or a naughty joke but also had the capacity for deep empathy. As he dealt with all experiences in life, David managed his illness with strength, grace, and stocism. As he would have wished, he spent his final days with his children by his side. We are sad to say goodbye to such a wonderful man and a loving father. His family will grieve deeply, but where there is deep grief, there is great love.

David is survived by his two children; son, David Michael Evans and wife Christine M. Evans and daughter, Aimee Elizabeth Derouin and husband Randall Derouin, Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Matthew D. Evans and wife Tori; and Annalee C. Ruffalo and husband Will, and great granddaughter, River. His long time dear friend Jerry Nienaber, Carolyn Anne Evans, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews also survive him.

Visitation to say your last goodbye to David will be held Thursday December 14th from 4 until 7pm at the Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main Street, Honesdale, PA. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 9 am, followed by a memorial mass at 10am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Church Street, Honesdale, PA. Interment will follow at the Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Township, PA. David will be buried in the Veterans section next to his parents.
