David Clark Irwin, 79, of Dyberry, passed away on Friday evening surrounded by his wife and children. David was the son of Robert and Alice (Rosencranse) Irwin. He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Dona (Smith) Irwin, son Hugh Irwin and companion Beth Kerber, son Adam Irwin, daughter Tracy Irwin Jay and her husband, Sean. Dave was the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren: Kira (Garrett) Ross, Heather (Justin) Smith, Brandon Irwin, Kristy (Jon) Fichtner, Ally (Erik) Petschauer, CJ Irwin, Becca Irwin, Justin Jay and Leah Jay, and 2 great-grandchildren: Paige and Colton Ross.

David was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Robert Irwin Jr., Carolyn Graff, Grant Irwin, and Linda Robbins.

Dave was the co-founder with Herc Widmer of Dyberry Sand and Gravel Company, later partnering with his father. He was fortunate enough to have his hardworking sons join him as well.

Dave was a pilot, a hunter, a skilled heavy equipment operator, a problem solver, and a true craftsman. He was an avid outdoorsman and for several decades was rarely ever seen without his bird dogs. He enjoyed travelling the United States with his wife, always with the dogs in tow. He loved watching his grandchildren grow, enthusiastically giving his signature “thumbs up” stamp of approval.

He enjoyed his daily routine: a ride around the neighborhood, a walk, a stop at the shop, a visit with the boys, a cold beer combined with a shit-eatin’ grin, and a kiss goodnight for his bride.

The family would like to thank the 911 workers, the Damascus Ambulance and the paramedics for their quick response. We also extend our gratitude to the emergency room staff, doctors, and nurses, and especially Nurse Kimberly Smith, a true angel.

Heartfelt thanks to all of our family and friends who have sent cards, texts, and calls, who dropped by to visit, who brought food and flowers, sent hugs and prayers from faraway. A special thank you to the good folks from town who showed patience and kindness to him every day. Knowing how he liked his coffee and saving him a parking spot are all gestures that never went unnoticed and we hold all of you dearly in our hearts.

Funeral Arrangements will be made by the Hessling Murray Funeral Home, Honesdale, PA. No public services will be held at this time. There will be celebration of life at a date to be determined.
