Smith, 86, of Honesdale, died on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Evelyn Smith on December 23, 2007. Born on December 15, 1937 in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Charles and Rita McClure Smith. He was a US Army veteran who served during peacetime. For many years, he worked for Cordaro’s Restaurant as a cook. Charlie was a life member of Texas #4 Fire Company. A resident at the Corey Street Apartments, he was well known as “The Mayor” and loved by the other residents there. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at Duck Harbor with his buddy, Bernie Derrick. Charlie was well known for his tall tales and bragging about being an “outlaw hunter.” He enjoyed and cherished the many friendships he made throughout his life. Surviving are his children, Janis Murray and husband Steve, Ronney Tuttle and wife Cathy, Bruce Tuttle and wife Pat, Drew Smith, Clover Loomis, Charlene Whitmore and husband Earl and Tina Binner and husband Jack; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his K-9 companion, Bennie. Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Tuesday, 4 to 7. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 10th at 11 am at the funeral home.
