Charles J. O’Neill, 77, of Pleasant Mount, died Friday, January 4, 2019 at Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born on September 29, 1941 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Jerome and Veronica Flynn O’Neill. Charlie graduated from Pleasant Mount High School and went on to complete a two year degree from Williamsport Tech in diesel engines. He later served in the Pennsylvania National Guard. He ran the family dairy farm in Mount Pleasant Township for many years and retried from the Wayne Highlands School District where he was a janitor at the Damascus School .

Charlie was a faithful member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Pleasant Mount. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies. A baseball fan, he also enjoyed watching the Little League World Series. On occasion, he enjoyed watching “Wheel of Fortune”, “Jeopardy”, “Andy Griffith” and “Mayberry” on television.

A resident at Forest City Nursing Home, Charlie enjoyed socializing and the friendships he had with the staff and other residents. Charlie’s family would like to thank Dr. Tomazic and the staff at McAndrew Family Health Center and the staff at Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center.

Surviving are his brothers Francis O’Neill and wife Margaret of Honesdale and Raymond O’Neill of Winter Park, FL; his sisters Rita O’Neill of Honesdale and Catherine O’Neill of Edgemoor, SC; sister-in-law Mary O’Neill of Odenton, MD; his only surviving aunt, Betty Flynn; nephews Michael, Timothy and Kevin O’Neill; nieces Colleen, Teresa, Maureen, Kerry, and Kathleen; 10 great nieces and 5 great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Paul O’Neill and sister Rosemary O’Neill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 10th at St. James Church in Pleasant Mount at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Cecelia’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday, 4 to 7.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Katharine Drexel Vestment Fund, 612 Hudson St., Forest City, PA 18421.
