Charles John Fritz, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully at his home on May 2, 2023, surrounded by family. Born May 27, 1937, in Honesdale, PA, he was the son of the late George and Mildred Fritz. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Ellen Fritz who passed away on November 16, 2020. The couple married on December 2, 1978.

 

Chuck graduated from Honesdale Catholic School in 1955 and continued his education at Villanova University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1959. After graduation, he returned to Honesdale where he worked at the family business, Fritz Brothers Well Drilling, until his death.

 

He belonged to St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and attended St. Mary Magdalen Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Honesdale Area Jaycees, where he was President in 1963, and the Honesdale Golf Club. He joined the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1959 and served until 1965. He enjoyed good food and dining out, doing crossword puzzles, and reading the newspaper.

Chuck is survived by his seven children: Charles Fritz, Jr. of Honesdale, Eric Fritz and wife Mary of Honesdale, Ellen Fritz of Guadalajara, Mexico, Kurt Fritz of San Diego, CA, Christopher Fritz of Scranton, Gretchen Hochreither and husband Robert of Hawley, and Marta Fritz and fiancé Brian Manning of Chesterbrook, PA; grandchildren Jana, Eric, Charles III, and Elizabeth Fritz; Catherine and Claire Hochreither; his brother George (Bucky) Fritz; his sisters Janet Michael, Carol McGinnis, Susan Ridd, Connie Carmody, and Karen Johson; many nieces and nephews and a very large extended family. He was preceded in death by his brothers Gerald, Carl, and Michael Fritz and his sisters Joann Nell, Miriam Frisch, and Barbara Fritz.

 

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 5th at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 am. Arrangements made by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St., Honesdale, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Dominic’s Academy, 329 Cliff Street, Honesdale, PA or to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA.
