Catherine A. Quinn, 89, of Honesdale passed away on Saturday, December 17. She was predeceased in 2006 by her husband of 59 years, William J. Quinn.

While a resident of Honesdale, Catherine was active in St John the Evangelist Parish with church and community sponsored events for the poor and for victims of violence. She was a member of the Perpetual Eucharist Adoration at St. Mary Magdalen Church and had many close friendships among the Red Hat Ladies of Honesdale. Catherine loved poetry and wrote poems for friends and for special occasions with a few poems published in the local newspaper.

Catherine and her husband were Honesdale residents since 1986 returning to Pennsylvania after living in New Haven, Connecticut for many years and raising their five daughters there. She was born in Matamoras, PA on October 21,1927 and was the daughter of George Morton and Catherine Schafer Morton. She graduated from Matamoras High School in 1945. She grew up close to the Delaware River and shared many fond memories of swimming in the Delaware River as a child. In returning to PA, she was very pleased to be near to that much loved and beautiful river.

Catherine worked in New Haven, Ct for many years at the G&O Manufacturing Co. as a Time Clerk in the payroll division. She attended the community college in New Haven, ran for public office there, and was involved in community outreach through neighborhood organizations that included environmental issues, racial equity issues, and included efforts to create expanded services for youths. She is remembered for initiating a neighborhood historical society and a popular neighborhood festival in Fair Haven.

She is survived by her daughters Cathy Meyerson and husband Bill of New Haven, CT; Ellen of Jersey City, NJ; Patricia Bacchiocchi and husband Ray of Shohola, PA; Eileen of Brooklyn, NY and son-in-law Dick Wieland.  A daughter Mary Wieland predeceased her in 2012. Catherine also leaves grandchildren Emily Grillo of Beach Lake; James Bacchiocchi of Shohola; Jesse Bacchiocchi (Nichole) of Jessup, PA, Fani Meyerson of New Haven, CT; Dan Meyerson (Lalena) of Kingston, NY; Sam Meyerson (Ayaka) of NYC; and Peter Wieland (Stephanie) of Seattle, WA. And she leaves eight great grandchildren Nathaniel and Leahnora Grillo; Finn and Devin Wieland; Annabelle, Olivia, and Collin Bacchiocchi and Ezra Meyerson. And she leaves nephews and nieces.

Catherine worked throughout her life on community efforts, big and small, to make the world more just and to protect its natural beauty. She will be missed by the many people she came to know who hope for the same.
