Anne M. Dieterich, 84, of Hawley, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph A. Dieterich on November 26, 2021. The couple married on September 10, 1960.

Born on September 2, 1939 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Rickert) Gumpper. She was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School. At a young age, Anne became active volunteering for the Red Cross where she taught swimming lessons. This began a love affair she would have with being around water that continued throughout her life. She continued teaching swimming lessons to family and friends over the years.

Anne began working at Sear Robuck and Co. in Honesdale. After raising her family, she worked in the family insurance business with her husband. She was a faithful member of B.V.M. Queen of Peace Parish in Hawley.

She and Rudy enjoyed traveling. Many of those trips included scubadiving. During one of those trips she began underwater photography and has quite the collection of underwater pictures. In her younger years, she loved winter sports. In recent years, she loved spending summers at Lake Wallenpaupack and winters in Florida.

Surviving are her sons, Michael J. Dieterich and Gerald A. Dieterich both of Hawley; her former daughter-in-law, Michele Dieterich; her brother, John “Jack” Gumpper of Honesdale; her sister, Patricia Romich of Hawley. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Renee (Dieterich) Schwesinger of Honesdale, Michael Dieterich and wife Kelly of Damascus, Matthew Dieterich of Beach Lake, Alexander Dieterich and partner Hailey Merritt of Honesdale and Tyler Dieterich of Hawley. Great grandchildren, Scott Davis, Logan Dieterich, Cole Dieterich and Ayden Schwesinger.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Gumpper, former daughter-in-law Karen Dieterich, grandchild, Kyla Schwesinger and brother-in-law Robert Romich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 2nd at Queen of Peace Church in Hawley at 10 am. Interment will in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross or to the American Heart Association.
