Albert Joseph “Sonny” Henderson, 80, of Milanville, died on Friday, November 18, 2016 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Theresa Lau. The couple married on March 2, 1957.

Born on December 30, 1935 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Albert H. and Margaret Griffin Henderson. He was a graduate of Damascus High School.

Sonny was a hard worker all of his life. He began farming with his father and mother as a young child and continued to build the dairy business with his wife and family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren also continue in this legacy and are involved in 4H and go to the barn to help out. In 1966 Sonny founded A. Henderson & Sons Trucking and began with one milk truck and added multiple milk tankers and grain hauling tractor trailers over the years. Sonny was happy as long as he was driving truck and being at home to tend to the fields with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren surrounding him.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association. Sonny enjoyed hunting and was a founding member of the Boyds Mills Hunting Club.

Sonny loved his family and especially looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sons Jack Henderson and wife Kathy and Jeff Henderson and wife Debbie all of Milanville; his brothers-in-law Art Rittershausen of Turnersville, NJ and Clarence Rickard of Cherry Ridge; his sister-in-law Florence Southerton of Honesdale; grandchildren Rebecca Maciejewski and husband Jason, Brooke LaTourette and husband Kory and Richard Henderson and wife Jen; great grandchildren Rozlyn, Brayden and Wynn Maciejewksi, Jackson LaTourette, Addie and Lainey Henderson; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Joan Rittershausen.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22nd at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11am. Interment will follow in Calkins Union Cemetery. Friends may visit on Monday, 5 to 9 at the funeral home.
