Edward Scott Lorenzen, 47, of Silver Springs, MD and Conventry, RI, died tragically with his four year old son, Michael Lorenzen on Friday, January 26, 2018 in his home in Coventry, RI. Edward was formerly of Rileyville, PA and a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1988. Edward was also a graduate of The American University in Washington, D.C. in 1992 where he received a degree in government and international relations.

Edward was born on July 7, 1970 in Topeka, KA. He was the son of Barbara Houghtaling of Rileyville and the late Michael Lorenzen. He was the step-son of the late Ivan Houghtaling.

Ed is survived by his son Zacheri (12) and daughter Penny (2), his mother Barbara Houghtaling, a sister Karen M. Lorenzen; a step-sister Michele Galloway and her husband John; his step-brother Eric Houghtaling and wife Jenelle.

Ed made his career in Washington, D.C. and recently was the Senior Advisor for the “Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.” He previously worked for the House Democratic Whip, Steny H. Hoyer who wrote of Ed in a press release on January 28, 2018, “Ed brought a rare passion to fiscal responsibility. He helped author the statutory PAYGO Act…”

“Ed shared that same passion for his Chicago Cubs, which he proudly promoted in my office on his ties. He was a resource not only to me but to staff and Members of both sides of the aisle throughout his time on Capitol Hill.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 5th at St. Joseph’s Church in Rileyville at 10 am. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA on Sunday, 1 to 5. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring.
