Joyce E. Burdick (Buddenhagen)

Joyce Elaine Burdick, 91, formerly of White Mills and a resident at Elmcroft of Mid Valley Senior Living, died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Burdick on August 25, 2013. The couple married on October 28, 1944.

Born on January 15, 1927 in Berlin Township, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mildred Smith Buddenhagen and was a graduate of White Mills School.

Over the years, Joyce was a factory worker, a secretary and a teller at the former F&M Bank before retiring. She was an active member of the White Mills United Methodist Church where she was a board member.

Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, helping people, watching her grandchildren and loved flowers.

Surviving is her son, Gerald Burdick and wife Jeanne of Hamburg, PA; her daughter Linda Shuman and husband Jeffrey of Honesdale, PA; three grandchildren Kris Zweizig and husband Jason of Mohrsville, PA, Kara Lesher and husband Randy of Hamburg, PA and Kelly Shuman of Hawley, PA. Six great grandchildren, Austin Zweizig, Ashton Lesher, Addison Lesher and Devon, Troy, and Nicholas Selvaggi.

She was preceded in death by her sister Gloria Gallagher.

Joyce’s family would like to thank the staff of Elmcroft of Mid-Valley, Peckville and all those involved with her care during her residency at the facility.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 26th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11:30. Friends may visit on Friday, 10:30 to service time. Interment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery at a later date.
