Russ Kip Moore, 66, of Honesdale and formerly of Dumont, NJ, died on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born on December 28, 1954 in Bryan, TX, he was the son of the late Carl and Loretta (Mydan) Moore. While in high school, Russ took an interest in music. Specifically playing the saxophone. Upon graduating high school, Russ moved to Tennessee to study music performance at Lambuth College (now University of Memphis at Lambuth) on a scholarship. Here, he formed the college’s 17 piece jazz band which toured throughout the United States and even performed at Walt Disney World in Florida. He also began his professional career playing many diverse venues, including saxophone with the Whetstone rock band, clarinet for 2 seasons with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and woodwinds with the Mid South tour of Herrmann’s Royal Lipizzaner Stallion Show (featured in the Walt Disney movie “Miracle of the White Stallions” and “Patton”). After graduating with honors, he moved to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music for a summer where he took courses that were not offered at his previous college. Along with his music career, Russ also became a successful mortgage broker in Dumont. Russ had a great passion for history and traveling to historical sites. Surviving is his sister, Cindy Johannes and husband Larry of Cherry Ridge; nieces and nephews, Benjamin and Jesse Lowe, Amanda and Alan Miller, Daisy and Mike Davis, Cyril and Jennie Johannes and Ryan Johannes. Also 4 great nieces and nephews Jermany Miller, Layla Miller, Aimee Johannes and Justin Davis.. He was preceded in death by his sister Carla Myers.
