Alice T. McGraw died December 14th, 2020 at Wayne Woodlands Manor after a lengthy illness. Born in Scranton PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Kinsella Cafferty. She graduated with honors from the Scranton Technical High School in 1941. She was the class historian. She married James J. McGraw the same year. During World War II Alice worked at the Scranton Lace Co, and later at the Murray Plant in South Scranton while Jim served In the US Army Air Force. After the war, Alice and Jim moved to Wayne County where Jim had taken a position to be manager of the Coca-Cola bottling plant in White Mills. Alice did the books for the company for many years. She also worked at the Hussco and Dale Sportswear in Honesdale, and Romich’s in Indian Orchard in the 1950’s, and seasonally at the Sears Catalog Store in Honesdale during the 1960’s. In the 1970’s Alice belonged to the White Mills Fire Co. Women’s Auxiliary, where she and many other women in the village worked at the Fire Hall catering the many wedding receptions that were held there. In the 1980’s she worked at the Serendipity Day Care Center in Hawley. Alice loved children. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court St. Martin, Honesdale PA. She volunteered as a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross at the Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was also a member of the White Mills PTA. She is survived by her daughter Ann Gerle, Gettysburg PA. Two sons, Michael (Jane) McGraw, Millersville MD, and Joseph (Julene) McGraw, Lake Ariel PA. Also, two grandsons, Michael McGraw and Gregory McGraw, and a great-granddaughter, Hailey McGraw. Also nephews Patrick and William McKenna, and Martin Cavanaugh. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, son Dr. James J. McGraw Jr., son-in-law Robert Gerle, and an infant daughter, Ellen. Also by her sisters, Betty O’Holleran, Mary Cavanaugh, Catherine Mahoney, Rita McKenna, and Sister St. Paul (Romaine) Cafferty, IHM. We would like to thank the staff of Wayne Woodlands Manor, and prior to that Bethany Village, for taking such wonderful and compassionate care of Alice. Also, the wonderful neighbors she had in White Mills, the Wenders family, and Barb and Werner Korteling. And her friends at Stourbridge Square Apartments, especially Judy Healy, who was so good to Alice in her later years. Also, family friends Pete and Pat Russo, and Domenic and Jenny Russo, the children of Angie and Fred Russo, who were beloved friends of the McGraw family. Per Alice’s request, she will be cremated. Due to the current pandemic situation, there will be no services held. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Alice’s memory to the Dessin Animal Shelter, or the American Red Cross.
