James C. Spadora Obituary
James “Jim” Spadora, 90, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Prompton, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019, peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones at Willowbrook Court of Indian River Estates in Vero Beach. He was born September 21, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of John and Catherine (Mulligan) Spadora. He was a loving husband of 51 years to the late Marilyn Schroeder Spadora whom he married on August 29, 1948.
Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Later, he continued his service to society as a New York City Fireman. As a fireman, he also volunteered as an Explorer Scout Leader for inner city youth. Jim moved to Prompton after his retirement from the fire department and worked as a security guard at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was known for his ever smiling face and kind greetings.
He was also a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
Jim treasured his family. Whether it was our birthday, anniversary, graduation or other milestone, he would always find a way to celebrate and share our special day with us. We will miss his phone calls “just to check in”. Jim enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing, gardening, feeding his birds, and especially camping with his family.
Jim is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Kathleen Duncan (Jack) of Sebastian, FL, Mary Bova (Michael) of Erie, PA, and Carol Giles (Paul) of Fishers Island, NY; and a son and his wife, Charles Spadora (Lauretta); a sister, Veronica Baird; five grandchildren, Dawn Duncan, Christina Vero, James E. Spadora, Kaitlin Bova and Sarah Bova; and six great-grandchildren, Alexandria Oliveri, Giovanni Oliveri, Ashley Stoll, Ethan Stoll, Kristina Kulak and Stephanie Kulak. He was preceded in death by his devoted companion, Fern Van Arsdale; two brothers, Harry Braunreuther and John Spadora; a sister, Patricia Rumovicz; and a granddaughter, Lisa Kulak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27th at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
