Richard “Rick” Levanowitz, 55, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Geisinger CMC in Scranton. Born in Blossburg, PA, he was the son of the late W. Edward and Ada (Stanton) Levanowitz. Following school, Rick joined the Pennsylvania National Guard and made his living as a carpenter upon completion of his service. Rick was a man of perpetual motion, never staying in one place for too long. However, he could be usually be found somewhere between Wayne and Tioga counties in Pennsylvania and he could ALWAYS be found wherever it was that he was needed, ready to do whatever he was needed for. He gave freely of himself, lending his gift of carpentry to numerous friends and family with countless projects. Rick held a strong Christian faith and his love for his friends and family knew no bounds. He was never more content than when in the company of those he loved, especially his grandchildren. His faith and belief that nothing was more important than family lead him to provide care and support for his parents and his dear brother, Joe, in their final days. Rick will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In his final months, Rick was cared for and supported by several friends that had become part of his family: Jamie Coccodrilli and Jared Daughtery and Vince and Susie Griffis. In addition to his parents and brother Joseph, Rick was preceded in death by his brother Walter and sister Carol “Corkie” Stocum. He is survived by his son Jason and wife Katrina and their daughters Kallista and Shae; three daughters and a grandson that he helped to raise as his own: Bonnie and her son Aiden; Meagan and Ashley Van Orden. In addition, Surviving are 4 sisters Mary Lou Minor, Gail Moore, Robin Owens, and Elaine Levanowitz; 3 brothers Larry, Gerry and Bob Levanowitz. Also many nieces and nephews that he loved very much. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 11am with Pastor Tim Kapschull officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, 9:30 to service time. Private interment will be held in Manesburg, PA at the convenience of his family. The family would like to honor Rick’s love of children by asking that, in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 3551 North Broad St. Philadelphia, PA 19140. |
