Joan Powner, 71, of White Mills, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard “Dick” Powner. The couple married on July 6, 1961. Born on June 27, 1943 in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marie Van DeSande Manzoni. Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated auxiliary member of the White Mills Fire Department for 40 years. Hobbies included road trips with Dick, gardening and feeding the birds and “chippies.” Joan’s family would like to thank Wayne Memorial Hospice for their care and compassion you gave her and her family. Joanie may be physically gone, but carried forever in our hearts. Also surviving are her children Barbara Daigeaun and husband Michael of Gettysburg, Donna Highhouse and husband Robert of Honesdale, and Steven Powner and wife Lynn Price; grandchildren Heather, Ashley, Cory, Bobby, Megan, and Cortney; great grandchildren Taylor, Gerry, Addison, Alexis, McKenzie and Jacob. Her brothers Frank Manzoni of FL, Bobby and Tommy Manzoni both of NJ and her aunt Ruth Jediny of NJ; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Mendel. As per her request, cremation was held. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21st at the White Mills Fire Hall at 11am.
