Margaret Rechner, 94, of Honesdale (Cherry Ridge) passed peacefully Thursday night, November 10, 2016, at Wayne Woodlands Manor. She was married to the late John Rechner who preceded her in death on February 17, 2002. What a life Margaret left behind. She was born in Karavukavo, Yugoslavia on April 17, 1922 and married her husband of 62 years on October 25, 1939 during World War II. As the war raged on and her husband was off in the war, she left Yugoslavia with her family and made her way to Germany. There she and her then two children awaited the end of the war and the return of her husband. Upon being reunited, the family remained in Germany until December 1949 when the family emigrated to the United States of America. The family ultimately settled on a farm in Fortenia where her children grew up. Margaret and her husband ultimately retired to their home in Cherry Ridge. She was a loving and giving woman who will be missed by many. Margaret is survived by her four children – Joseph Rechner and his wife Jeanne (South Carolina), Hugh Rechner and his wife Carol (Honesdale), John Rechner (North Carolina), and Elizabeth Romanczuk and her husband Ronald (Florida), and her sister Barbara Kleinhans (Germany). She was also blessed with twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by two children, Elizabeth in 1943 and George in 1948, her husband of 62 years John Rechner, and brothers Michael Birli, Peter Birli, Conrad Birli, Hans Birli, Sebastian Birli, and sister Katherina Noss. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 10 am. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. between 8:30 and 9:30 AM to pay their respects before the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Margaret’s memory to the Recreation Fund at Wayne Woodlands Manor or to the Wayne Memorial Hospital Home Health/Hospice Services.
