Alzina Martha Young, 88, of Prompton, died Tuesday morning, December 9, 2014 at Carbondale Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Nelson on July 19, 1999. Born on December 28, 1925 at the family home in Bethany, she was the daughter of the late Adrian and Martha Miller Brown. Before retiring, she worked as a seamstress at the former Sherman Mills and Waymart Knitting. When she was younger, Alzina enjoyed being active, bowling and playing pool in several leagues. She also enjoyed golfing and was very proud of her hole-in-one at Cricket Hill Golf Course. A snow bird, she and Ken enjoyed their winter trips to Florida. Surviving is her son Dan Young and wife Linda of Honesdale; her daughters Martha Briggs of Prompton with whom she resided and Martha’s significant other Jack Kuhn and Alice Gill and husband Tom of Wilkes Barre, PA; her brother Oliver Brown of Honesdale; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Adrian Brown and a sister Liddie Wilcox. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12th, 2 to 4 at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. As per her request, cremation will follow. |
