Gustave Naring, 87, of Honesdale entered the gates of heaven peacefully at home with his loving wife, Pauline, by his side on Friday, September 23, 2016. Raised in Cold Springs, he was the youngest son of the late Gustave and Anna Berezansky Naring. Gus was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in the Korean War. Soon after his discharge from the army, he joined the Honesdale Police Department, where he proudly served his community for over 50 years, including the time served as a traffic cop after retirement. In addition to his police work, Gus owned his own window washing business for years, with his grandson, Ryan by his side. Through the years, he also owned his own office cleaning and lawn care businesses. Hard work and serving others were his passions. He loved people, his heritage, his community, singing and making others laugh. Gus also enjoyed hunting and fishing, blackberry picking with his grandson Ryan, good food, spending time with his grandchildren and entire family, and having a good time. His “beautiful little polish wife” as he referred to her, was the love of his life for over 64 years and brought him great joy. His daughters Patty and Kathy and grandchildren Ryan, Carrie, Greg and Anthony were also the light of his life! His greatest wish was to be remembered as a kind and loving person who made people laugh. He once said, “If you can’t have a good laugh, life isn’t worth living!” A special thanks to Wayne Memorial Hospice for their excellent care. A heartfelt thanks especially to Jessica Tuttle who went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure our loved one was well cared for both physically and emotionally; embracing the entire family. He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline, daughters Patty Naring Gager & husband Rudy of Honesdale and Kathy Naring Miserendino & husband Chuck of Hanover PA, grandchildren Ryan Gager and fiancé Stacy Walker of Lake Ariel, Carrie Gager Gill and husband Dan of Equinunk, Greg Miserendino of Mechanicsburg PA and Anthony Miserendino of Burbank California, a sister Doris Heinlein of Ridgefield Connecticut, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustave and Anna Naring, his brother, Herman Naring of Norwalk Connecticut, his sister Ann Naring Suchocki of Stamford Connecticut and his sister Agusta Telesco Ostrow of Cold Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Wayne Memorial Hospice, Honesdale Boro Police, Hose Company #1, or to a charity of one’s choice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 27 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery with military honors and a service by the Fraternal Order of Police.
