Jeanne Ennis, RN, 92, of Honesdale and formerly of the Upper East Side in New York City, died on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Bethany Village, where she has been residing. Born on January 22, 1924 in Honesdale, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the Joseph and Carrie Schupper Ennis family. She was a graduate of Honesdale High School, where she played on the woman’s basketball team. She later became a registered nurse receiving her training at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. For 40 years, Jeanne was a nurse supervisor at Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City before retiring. In New York, she was a faithful member of St. John the Martyr Church and locally was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. Jeanne was also a member of the Lenox Hill Nursing Association and the Sloan Kettering Nursing Association. Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Maureen Pykus, Jim Murray, Richard Picciotto, Robert Picciotto, Brian Ennis, Gary Ennis, Eileen Ennis and Ann Marie McGinley and 16 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers James, John and Gerald Ennis; sisters Marcella Murray and Mary Picciotto and her nephew Neil Murray. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27th at St. John the Evangelist Church, Honesdale at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Honesdale. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at Holy Family Hall in St. John’s Church, 10 to 11. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. |
