Mariann Alice Katz Thompson was born January 31, 1948 to Robert and Alice Katz, and passed away February 28, 2016 in Honesdale, PA.
Growing up in Honesdale, she moved on to attend the University of Denver where she studied Art and then the University of Montana, where she obtained a B.A. degree in Psychology with Honors Cum Laude. During that time she also studied photography under famed photographer Lee Nye. Mariann continued her education with an M.S. degree in Clothing and Textiles from the University of Southern Illinois eventually working as Vice-President of Katz Underwear Company when she moved back to Honesdale.
She was often designing and implementing new sleepwear for the company, pursuing her antique business selling English and American Majolica, taking care of and breeding animals and continually reading a variety of books quenching her thirst for knowledge. Mariann’s antique business thrived and she had three books published that were identification and value guides for Majolica pottery. When she retired she continued with her creative passions and made and sold her own jewelry for a number of years.
Mariann is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Warren Thompson, her three daughters, Tamara Marks of Oceanside, CA, Irene Marks, of Palymra Township, PA_and Alice Thomas of Greentown, PA with husband Dale Thomas Jr. and grandson Bryson Thomas as well as her brother Robert Katz Jr. and wife Debbie of Philadelphia. She was preceded by her brother James Katz; brothers-in-law Norman Thompson Sr., Michael Thompson and Charles Thompson; sisters-in-law Linda and Wanda Thompson.
